The Duplin County Economic Development Commission and the Small Business Center at James Sprunt Community College, and with the participation and support of NCGrowth and Southern Bank, are offering an incentive package in excess of $20,000 to a winning entrepreneur who will open a store in Duplin County or start a home-based business that creates two jobs or more no later than December 31, 2017.

Every Tuesday starting October 24, 2017, James Sprunt will be offering Farm School. The 8-week program is designed to help you get the most from your farm and is focused on building and understanding the business side of your investment. Kick start your farm business by finding which business structure works best for your goals. Learn the fundamentals of the business operations and how they work. Learn to think outside of the box on which business entity might be best for you.

Carbon Cycle Energy Breaks Ground on $100-Million Biogas Facility in North Carolina

The largest utility-scale biogas facility in the U.S., capable of transforming animal and food waste into enough clean energy to power 32,000 homes annually, will break ground on Dec. 15 near Warsaw, NC.

Diesel and Heavy Equipment students complete first semester at JSCC
Warsaw – With its first semester completed, the Diesel and Heavy Equipment technology program is working to help train technicians for the diesel trucking industry.
A ribon cutting was held recently for the $1.7 million facility at West Park.
Four years ago, Smithfield Hog Production, formerly Murphy Brown, approached James Sprunt Community College about forming a partnership to train technicians.
The goal was to address the changes in technology and provide a source of ongoing training for current technicians in a state-of-the-art classroom training environment.

PIEDMONT NATURAL GAS INKS AGREEMENTTO CONNECT TO SWINE-GAS PROJECT WITH DUKE ENERGY

Piedmont Natural Gas has reached an interconnection agreement with Optima KV for construction of the natural gas lines to put swine-waste gas on Piedmont’s system for use by Duke Energy at two of its plants.
